Sol & Stone is hiring experienced and dependable Back of House team members for our new elevated bar and restaurant located in the heart of Chicago’s Loop.

We are looking for hardworking, organized, and team-oriented kitchen staff who take pride in consistency, cleanliness, and quality execution. Sol & Stone will serve a mix of lunch, happy hour, dinner, private events, and elevated bar service, so we are looking for people who can work with urgency, professionalism, and attention to detail in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

About the Role

Back of House team members will support daily kitchen operations and help ensure that every dish is prepared according to Sol & Stone’s standards. Ideal candidates should be reliable, organized, and able to work well as part of a team. Previous restaurant or kitchen experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidates for select roles.

Line cooks and prep cooks should be comfortable working stations, following recipes, maintaining proper prep levels, and executing food consistently during service. Dishwashers and porters should be able to work efficiently, maintain a clean and organized dish area, support the kitchen team, and assist with general cleanliness throughout the restaurant.

For lead cook, sous chef, or kitchen management support roles, candidates should have prior kitchen leadership experience and the ability to help manage prep, service execution, cleanliness, food quality, and team communication.

Responsibilities May Include:

• Preparing food according to recipes, standards, and portion guidelines
• Setting up and breaking down stations for service
• Maintaining proper prep levels for lunch, happy hour, dinner, and events
• Cooking and plating menu items consistently and efficiently
• Following food safety, sanitation, and storage procedures
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Washing dishes, glassware, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed
• Receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries properly
• Communicating clearly with chefs, managers, and team members
• Supporting the kitchen team during high-volume service
• Completing opening, closing, and cleaning duties

For lead cook, sous chef, or kitchen management support candidates, responsibilities may also include:

• Supporting daily kitchen operations
• Helping train and coach BOH team members
• Maintaining food quality, consistency, and presentation standards
• Assisting with prep lists, station organization, and service readiness
• Supporting inventory, ordering, waste control, and kitchen cleanliness
• Helping maintain a positive, professional, and accountable kitchen culture

Qualifications:

• Previous restaurant or kitchen experience preferred
• Strong work ethic and sense of urgency
• Ability to follow recipes, prep lists, and kitchen procedures
• Ability to work cleanly, safely, and efficiently
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift as required for the role
• Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Food Handler certification preferred or required depending on role
• Leadership experience preferred for lead cook, sous chef, and kitchen management support roles

Compensation:

Compensation varies by role and experience. Kitchen leadership compensation will be discussed based on experience and position level.
