Job SummaryWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Infrastructure Intern to join our IT department. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure and IT operations. The intern will assist with networking projects, infrastructure documentation, and system support while working alongside experienced IT staff. The role focuses on network port mapping, infrastructure documentation, and supporting day-to-day network operations, cross function with help desk ticketing as needed.
Essential FunctionsNetwork Infrastructure
- Assist with auditing and mapping switch port usage across the organization.
- Trace port connections and identify active and unused ports.
- Map switch ports to physical locations across facilities.
- Validate VLAN assignments and document network configurations.
- Update and maintain network diagrams and infrastructure documentation.
- Assist with switch deployments and configuration preparation.
- Help map wireless access point locations and support wireless optimization.
Infrastructure & Operations
- Assist with reviewing and documenting firewall rules and configurations.
- Stage and prepare hardware for deployment including workstations and network devices.
- Help maintain IT asset inventory and infrastructure tracking.
- Provide basic troubleshooting support for network connectivity issues.
- Shadow Network Engineers and Systems Administrators on active projects.
The IT Infrastructure Intern will apply core concepts from their IT, Computer Science, or Network Engineering coursework in a real-world enterprise environment. They will gain hands-on experience with network fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, wireless networking, and firewall documentation), infrastructure mapping and documentation, and basic troubleshooting.
Minimum Requirements- Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field
- Completed at least one year of college coursework
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
