As a US-based warranty provider, we provide expertise in safety and homecare to our customers. Our integrated solutions meet customer needs both inside and outside the home. Inside the home we protect critical aspects of home function such as plumbing, heating and cooling, appliances, power surges, hot water heater, and interior electrical. Outside the home we provide protection for critical lines (water, gas, wells, sewers, electric and septic). We primarily go to market B2B2C, partnering mostly with water/gas/electric utilities and municipalities to offer our product leveraging their brand for marketing and often adding our subscription fee to the water/gas/electric bill itself. This role is based in our Naperville, IL office. A regular in-office hybrid model (generally T-Th in office, M&F remote) is required, as our office environment is a key driver of our company culture and employee experience.

Position Summary: As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be working on several of the key technology initiatives leveraging cutting edge data, cloud and integration technologies. Working within Digital and Web team, you will be involved in designing and developing end to end external facing applications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a hands-on technical lead contributing to and directing the efforts of other development resources, including internal and external team members
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the existing portfolio of applications and services.
  • Design, develop, modify, implement, and support software components across the software stack.
  • Work on emerging technology trends, especially in SaaS, cloud computing, and DevOps space to identify and implement better solutions to address business needs.
  • Execute in a smart way to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive business value.
  • Determine root cause for complex software issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions.
  • Adopt an API centric approach of integrating to mid-office applications and to partners.
  • Work in close partnership with cross-functional teams and management.
  • Develop software solutions by identifying user needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage, and business processes.
  • Follows the software development lifecycle.
  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by producing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
  • Writes unit test code that demonstrates code correctness.
  • Works closely with a team of frontend and backend engineers, product managers, and analysts.

Experience and Qualifications of the Role

  • Minimum of 12 years of designing and developing complex Full Stack custom applications using Java, Angular, React, Node.js, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Kafka or other equivalent programming languages.
  • Hands-on experience with micro-services architecture pattern and understanding of various technical components supporting.
  • Have a good understanding of containerization concepts (viz. Docker or Kubernetes).
  • Have a good understanding of various integration patterns, SOAP/REST protocols, WebSockets, and familiar with XML, JSON .
  • Designed high-availability applications in a multi-tier cloud architecture, including database, service/API, and UI components of the application
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment concepts along-with necessary tools like Puppet, Chef, VSTS, Maven, Jenkins, JIRA etc.
  • Extensive experience with emerging and cloud-based technologies on AWS and/or Azure.
  • Developing applications that integrate with multiple databases, experience using No SQL DBs is an advantage.
  • Strong experience with digital technologies and optimizing customer flow in a D2C mode.

We offer a compelling total rewards package that includes a competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits to support your total wellbeing. The base pay range for this position is $142,000- $190,000 USD Annual. The specific pay offered will depend on qualifications, experience, education and skill set. The compensation offered may also include an annual performance-based bonus, sales incentive plan or commission target.
