Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: May 1, 2026

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide administrative oversight to Beu Health Center and University Counseling Center as well as assess and treat mental health concerns of college students. Major responsibilities include:

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat mental health concerns of college students creating individualized care plans incorporating medication and/or psychotherapy.
  • Directly and indirectly supervise employees in Beu Health Center and the University Counseling Center. Supervision includes recruitment, hiring, developing performance standards, training, professional development, evaluation, adjudication of grievances, and assignment of duties to personnel with Beu Health Center and University Counseling Center.
  • Provide crisis intervention to individuals experiencing acute psychological and/or emotional distress. Crisis intervention may include assessment, stabilization, safety planning, and/or referrals.
  • Develop and implement goals and objectives to meet student health needs. In development of these plans, one will work with staff, students, and other appropriate members of the University and local community.

RANK & SALARY: $102,000 -$110,000. Negotiable, commensurate with experience.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Leadership, management, and problem-solving skills;
  • Effective communication skills, sound judgment, interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflictual information;
  • Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health concerns as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

Academics

More than 61 undergraduate degree programs, 41 graduate programs, two doctoral programs and 16 post-baccaulaureate certificate programs prepare students for a successful career after graduation.

Numerous concerts, lectures, films, dance performances, cultural events and more are presented and performed each year, along with numerous major theatrical and dance productions and studio shows, and a variety of service-oriented projects and activities.

WIU Intercollegiate Athletics

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. All varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Ohio Valley Conference.
