Industrial Automation Mechanical Assembly Technician
Why Matrix Design
Great teams build great companies. At Matrix Design, our purpose is clear: Developing Great People, Building a Great Company, and Delivering Great Results. We rally around six core behaviors that shape how we work every day:
- A can-do attitude
- Doing the job right
- Keeping our commitments
- Improving continuously
- Winning together
- Working for a purpose bigger than ourselves
A day in this role
You start by reviewing detailed mechanical drawings, then lay out parts and subassemblies for a custom automation system. You’ll square frames, mount enclosures, fasten actuators and sensors, and route cable harnesses neatly per the layout—prepping everything for our electrical and controls teams. You’ll perform fit and alignment checks, document progress, and collaborate with engineers to solve build challenges. Safety, organization, and craftsmanship are your anchors throughout the day.
What you’ll do
- Mechanical system build: Assemble precision mechanical components and structures for industrial automation systems using engineering prints and specifications.
- Hardware installation: Mount enclosures, actuators, sensors, guarding, and related components per design intent.
- Cable and wire prep: Route, dress, and label cables and wires per layout guidelines to prepare for electrical integration— no live power connections .
- Quality and process control: Verify alignment, fit, and secure installation; keep accurate build records; escalate discrepancies promptly; and follow safety procedures and company standards.
- Support and collaboration: Work closely with engineers and fellow technicians to resolve mechanical issues; maintain tools, parts, and a tidy workstation.
Skills you’ll bring
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions
- Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and precise assembly techniques
- Working knowledge of actuators, sensors, control enclosures, and related industrial hardware
- Fundamentals of cable routing and wire management (without energizing circuits)
- High attention to detail, communication, teamwork, and adherence to standardized processes
- Organized approach to parts, tools, and documentation

- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or associate degree preferred
- 1–3 years in mechanical assembly or production, ideally within industrial automation
