Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire Site Technician 2 at Horseshoe Lake State Park for The Office of Land Management. This position will perform ground maintenance, make repairs to vehicles and equipment, site structures, marinas and wildlife habitats, operate trucks, tractors, backhoe and stump cutter, perform carpentry duties and repairs to AC/heating, plumbing and electrical systems, participate in site operations, operate hunter check stations and inform visitors of site rules and regulations. Horseshoe Lake State Park park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities on 2,960 acres which include camping, boating, fishing hiking and hunting. Essential Functions

  • Under direct supervision, participates in the maintenance and improvements to all site structures, facilities, grounds, trails, waterways, marinas, wildlife habitats, and day use areas at Horseshoe Lake State Park.
  • Maintains site vehicles and equipment.
  • Participates in grounds maintenance.
  • Participates in site operations including camping and hunting programs.
  • Maintains building interiors.
  • Assists in implementing safety and security at the site.
  • On an intermittent or seasonal basis, provides leadership and direction to volunteers, seasonal employees, and other staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
  • Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.

  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.

OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.

Work Hours: 6am-2pm Tues-Sat with Sun/Mon off; Late Oct-Late Dec 4AM to Noon shift to cover duck season
