About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Biller to join the Business Office team, specifically within Patient Financial Services , at a hospital in Chicago. This Non-Exempt position is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who can ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient billing and claims.

Key Responsibilities

As a Biller, you will perform a variety of essential patient billing activities under direct supervision, including:

• Reviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness, and obtaining any missing information.
• Monitoring and maintaining the billing filing system for in-house folders.
• Identifying and billing ​​​​​​ secondary or tertiary insurances .
• Securing that all inpatient MCO/HMO claims are billed with authorizations .
• Transmitting all final billed claims to the clearinghouse .
• Auditing and correcting/modifying patient charges on current billings.
• Completing registration, charging, and input of diagnosis for all outpatient Mental Health Accounts, and inputting all charges for the outpatient Addiction Center Program .
• Securing that all claims have been ​​​​​​ scrubbed for errors and have the correct Revenue Codes and modifiers before billing.
• Reconciling all claims by the payor to ensure all claims are billed.
• Completing an appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards and organizing work procedures to generate acceptable levels of productivity

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Experience: 3 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Healthcare Experience: Three or more years’ experience in the healthcare patient billing area .
• Skills:
  • Data entry skills using a business computer.
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and state Medicaid and MCO's .
• • Knowledge of shadow billing (Medicare replacement plans) .

Compliance Responsibility

You will be expected to understand and adhere to the hospital's compliance standards, keeping abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they exist and as they change.
