Multicraft Industrial Maintenance Mechanic
About the Role
Report to the Maintenance Supervisor and keep a fast-paced production environment running safely and efficiently. In this multicraft mechanic role, you will diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, and relay logic systems; complete preventive work; jump on breakdowns; and help rebuild and install equipment. You’ll also document your work, support root-cause investigations, and mentor newer mechanics.
A Day in the Life
- Begin with safety: follow plant policies and lockout/tagout procedures before touching any asset.
- Review open work orders, tackle preventive and corrective jobs, and coordinate with Production to minimize downtime.
- Respond to unplanned stops, rapidly troubleshoot issues, replace components, and verify safe return to service.
- Partner with Maintenance and Operations to pinpoint recurring failures and contribute to corrective actions using root cause analysis tools.
- Support rebuilds, installs, and modifications assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Record parts usage, findings, and actions taken; keep maintenance notes accurate and complete.
- Share know-how with less experienced teammates and help build a positive, solutions-focused atmosphere.
What You’ll Do
- Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and replace components across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, and relay logic systems.
- Restore production during breakdowns safely and efficiently.
- Carry out routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment.
- Assist with equipment rebuilds, installations, and upgrades per Maintenance Supervisor direction.
- Provide day-to-day technical support for problem analysis and equipment failures.
- Maintain thorough documentation: work orders, parts consumed, and detailed maintenance notes.
- Help train and mentor newer mechanics; collaborate respectfully with associates, support teams, and management.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Education
- 2-year technical degree in a maintenance field or at least 2 years of maintenance experience.
- Preferred: technical or associate degree (industrial maintenance, mechanical, electrical, or related) or equivalent trade training.
- Equivalent combinations of education and hands-on experience considered.
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and accurate measurement-taking.
- Work independently to troubleshoot problems and follow written instructions.
- Read electrical schematics/diagrams; understand and troubleshoot mechanical machinery.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Clear written and verbal communication with internal partners and suppliers.
- Working knowledge of bearings, bushings, gear boxes, fixed/variable power transmission, pump seals, clutches, brakes, manual/automatic control valves, motors, couplings, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, VFDs, transducers, solenoids, relays, motor starters, switches (flow, photo, proximity, level, pressure, etc.), encoders, tachometers, AC/DC drive controls, pipe/tubing/fittings, circuit boards, PLCs, transmitters, machining, welding, and fabrication.
- Set up and operate shop equipment and portable power tools safely.

- 120/208/240/480 VAC systems; electrical diagnostics and repair
- Hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting
- Relay testing; machine safety inspections
