Wastewater Treatment Operator

Wastewater Operator performs duties relating to the control and processing of wastewater and bio-solids. Prior experience or education related to wastewater treatment is preferred, but not required. The successful candidate will participate in a training program for up to twelve months on a variety of shifts to learn processes under different operating conditions. Every operator must be able to operate either plant by himself/herself after completing training.

This position performs a variety of duties to meet State and Federal discharge regulations including:

• Interpreting data from various lab or on-site tests,
• Using SCADA to develop and implement appropriate responses to alarms at the plants and lift stations,
• Maintaining records and logs and interpreting data according to established guidelines,
• Performing preventive maintenance functions,

This position requires the ability to obtain a Class IV Illinois Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate. It also requires the ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery, use a computer to enter, retrieve, manage, and interpret data, communicate effectively, and work as a team member. A safe driving record and the ability to be covered by District vehicle insurance are required. The position requires the ability to climb ladders and stairs, to walk around the plants in all weather conditions, and sufficient visual and auditory acuity to communicate with others and respond to alarms or warnings.

Employees must live within or relocate to within 20 miles or be within 45 minute normal drive time of the District within 6 months of employment. A map of the residency boundaries may be found on the website.
