Plant Machinery Maintenance Technologist

Mission

Keep production moving by elevating equipment reliability. You will blend hands-on mechanical skill, industrial electrical expertise, and controls troubleshooting to prevent failures, solve problems fast, and improve the performance of complex machinery.

Imagine this scenario

A line is trending hot on vibration and temps. You pull predictive data, validate with on-the-spot tests, and trace the issue to a worn component. You coordinate parts, machine a replacement on the lathe, perform the swap, fine-tune control settings, and prove the fix with functional tests—all documented in the CMMS. Downtime averted, costs reduced, and lessons captured for CI.

Core accountabilities

• Execute mid- to expert-level corrective and preventive maintenance using observation, diagnostics, and thorough functional testing.
• Dismantle equipment to access/replace defective parts; inspect for imperfections; adjust mechanisms and control instruments; recondition and repair machine tools.
• Troubleshoot control systems, resolving hardware, software, and configuration challenges.
• Use predictive maintenance technologies to gather and act on performance data.
• Identify, source, and manage parts, supplies, and repair items.
• Independently maintain equipment to industry standards.
• Operate shop machinery (lathe, drill press, grinder, other metalworking tools) to make or repair parts; perform welding as needed.
• Update work orders and analyze equipment history within the CMMS.
• Advance 5S and housekeeping; drive continuous improvement projects that enhance processes, outcomes, and cost efficiency.
• Provide guidance to junior technicians and lead small teams as part of your development.
• Invest in growth through on-the-job learning and technical self-study.
• Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, and technical instructions; maintain situational awareness to spot and address unsafe acts and conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree (technical) plus 3+ years of related industrial experience; or 5+ years of related industrial experience; or completion of the ATS Technician Progression Program.
• Solid grasp of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; demonstrated troubleshooting and repair capability.
• Skilled with basic hand tools and applicable specialty tools.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting, electrical troubleshooting, and general maintenance/repair skills.
• Industrial electrical experience with 120/208/240/480-volt systems.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Working environment and physical demands

• Regularly: stand, walk, handle or feel with hands/fingers, reach with hands/arms, climb/ascend/descend or balance at heights with a ladder or lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces, and talk/hear.
• Occasionally: sit.
• Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
• Regular need for close and color vision.
• Occasional exposure to outside weather and risk of electrical shock.
• Factory setting that is typically very loud, with potential exposure to hazardous materials and greasy or slippery floors.
