Product manager

Pearson Education Services
Springfield, IL

Role Overview

We are seeking an outcome-driven Sr. Product Manager who will shape the vision, set direction, and ensure measurable success across the Pearson Virtual Schools AI-powered learning platforms. You will be expected to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority, building alignment and momentum by inspiring trust, clarity, and confidence in the product vision.

In this role, you will define and implement an outcome-based product roadmap, aligning priorities with student and customer needs while driving growth through student engagement and customer adoption. You and cross-functional teams will leverage new technologies and continuous experimentation to validate ideas quickly and deliver high-impact solutions. You will work closely with Design, Research, Engineering, Product Marketing, business stakeholders, and customers, to drive the design and development of Pearson Virtual School (PVS) products. In addition, you’ll lead go-to-market activities, partnering with Product Marketing and support teams to ensure adoption and long-term engagement.

The ideal candidate thrives in evolving environments continuously adapting to new information through analytics and customer feedback to inform decision-making with a bias toward action.

This is a primarily remote role, with occasional travel for in-person collaboration with colleagues and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an outcome-based product roadmap, prioritizing platform features, third-party partnerships, and other strategic initiatives, balancing customer needs, technical feasibility, and business realities to shape product direction.
  • Clearly communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to leadership, internal teams, and customers.
  • Partner with Design, Engineering, Research, and customer-facing teams to discover, define, and launch new products and features.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and support teams to create and execute go-to-market strategies that drive adoption and engagement.
  • Define, track, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), using data and experimentation to inform product and business decisions.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for innovation, differentiation, and growth.
  • Produce clear, effective product requirement artifacts (PRDs, opportunity solution trees, user stories, NFRs, etc.) that align teams at all levels.
  • Develop and present enterprise business cases that clearly articulate customer value, market opportunity, investment requirements, and expected business outcomes to guide executive decision-making.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, shared ownership, and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience, with proven success owning initiatives throughout the product lifecycle from concept to launch and iteration.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments, with the ability to bring clarity to executive stakeholders through strong communication and storytelling skills.
  • Cross-disciplinary literacy across UX Design, Engineering, Finance, and Product Marketing functions.
  • Expertise in modern Product Management and product development methodologies (Agile, Lean, Continuous Discovery, Multivariate Testing, Jobs-to-be-Done, Opportunity Mapping, etc.).
  • Ensure regulatory, compliance, and privacy considerations are factored into product decision-making.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, capable of connecting market trends, customer needs, and business goals.
  • Experience creating enterprise business cases to inform product investment decisions.
  • Experience managing third-party vendor relationships or ecosystem partnerships.
  • Bachelor's degree (Education, Engineering, Product Management, or business background preferred).

Ideal candidates would also have

  • Prior experience in teaching, education, or EdTech
  • Strong experience with Jira, Jira Product Discovery, Confluence
  • Experience with eCommerce and related analytics tools and platforms (Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Statsig, Grafana, etc.)
