Position Summary
The Apprenticeship Coordinator supports YouthBuild Lake County IL Works Pre Apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship participants as they transition into registered apprenticeships and other careers in construction and trades. This role focuses on preparing apprentices for career success by coordinating training, fostering skill development, and building relationships with employers and training programs. The Apprenticeship Coordinator collaborates with other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to participant growth and placement.
Essential Functions
Career Pathways Education
- Coordinate training for apprentices in occupational certifications, such CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10, etc.
- Guide apprentices through career pathway options, helping them understand and pursue viable opportunities.
- Build supportive relationships with apprentices, motivating them toward career goals and success.
Career Development
- Support job readiness training for YouthBuild IL Works Pre Apprentices and Registered Apprentices, including essential skills for the workforce.
- Organize professional development activities, including guest speakers, mock interviews, career fairs, career panels, and field trips.
- Facilitate career assessments to help apprentices identify and pursue suitable career paths.
- Facilitate job readiness sessions, such as LinkedIn and resume workshops to meet program employability requirements
Job Training and Placement Support
- Collaborate with the Business Engagement Manager to develop and maintain employer relationships, facilitating placements and work experience in construction and other relevant fields
- Coordinate tours and job shadowing opportunities for apprentices, exposing them to various career options.
- Track and report on apprentice placement activities, ensuring documentation meets program and grant requirements.
Data Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, records, and reports on apprentice activities in systems such as Salesforce, Il Works, RAPIDs, etc.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on participant progress, attendance, credentialing outcomes, and classroom performance.
- Track daily attendance and prepare weekly payment records for submission
- Maintain attendance records per program and grant requirements for the ILW program.
- Prepare reports and dashboards for program tracking and compliance.
Alumni Relations
- Support alumni engagement, introducing graduates to opportunities for ongoing involvement and career advancement.
- Maintain updated records on alumni, including employment status and career progress, to support grant outcomes.
Program Support and Participant Services
- Provide comprehensive program support, ensuring participants receive necessary supportive services, such as assistance with eyeglasses, childcare, and transportation to facilitate their success in the program.
- Maintain program cohesiveness, coordinating with other staff to support participants from orientation through to the success ceremony, fostering a unified program experience.
- Refer participants to external resources and services as needed, helping them access housing, healthcare, and other support for personal and professional stability.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure participants feel fully supported throughout their apprenticeship journey, building strong foundations for long-term success.

Other Responsibilities
- Coordinate with program intake touchpoints for ILW Pre Apprentice Program and Registered Apprenticeship
- Attend required ILW virtual and in-person training and conferences
- Maintain high standards for confidentiality and respect in all interactions.
- Engage in general administrative tasks as needed and support organizational activities.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be capable of providing participant transport in a company van or bus, with occasional use of a personal vehicle for business and participant transportation.
- Represent YBLC professionally in all interactions.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience: Experience in apprenticeship coordination, job placement, or workforce development and construction is preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite; excellent interpersonal skills.
- Attributes: Strong organizational skills, commitment to participant success, and a proactive approach to relationship-building.
