Infrastructure Specialist I
Description
The Infrastructure Specialist I is responsible for monitoring system availability and utilizing available management tools to develop statistical reports concerning trend analysis and system availability. The individual will assist in taking corrective action, when necessary, and perform routine system maintenance as assigned. The position is also responsible for assisting in support of the server and application environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors and proactively notifies technical or management staff regarding network thresholds, alarms, routers, and visual events to ensure systems and network availability is maintained for PC's, communications equipment on the Wide Area Network (WAN), servers on the Local Area Network (LAN), and printers at all times.
- Assists with the configuration of servers according to specified guidelines. Adjusts monitoring tools under the direction of senior infrastructure staff.
- Installs upgrades and maintains applications as assigned. Assists with application implementations in order to maximize monitoring and reporting capabilities.
- Identifies and researches existing problems and monitors the system for potential problems in order to resolve or prevent potential disruptions of system availability.
- Resolves minor issues with the network or systems. Assists in resolving medium complexity issues.
- Assists with disaster recovery efforts and provides state-of-the-art virus protection for the network to prevent loss of data for the user.
- Operates according to EquiTrust's change and problem management methodologies.
- Supports the Information Technology team and/or other departments on an as-needed basis.
- Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
- Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Good analytical skills are required to analyze issues and problems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy to assist in configuring servers and software.
- Ability to identify issues and resolve problems.
- Basic understanding of Cisco, Palo Alto, and Dell products.
- Ability to understand WAN administration concepts.
- Must be conversant with a variety of system architectures and security concepts/techniques (including authentication mechanisms, operating systems, DNS, NFS, SSH, Firewalls, IIS, Apache, and security applications capabilities).
- Good oral and written communication skills are required.
Training or Work Experience:
- If a High School Diploma or equivalent, a minimum of 4 years of experience in the infrastructure field is required.
- If an Associates Degree, a minimum of 2 years of network administration or troubleshooting experience is required.
- If a Bachelor's Degree, a minimum of 1 year of network administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance experience is required.
- If Technical or Trade School Certificate, a minimum of 6 months of internship or work experience in the infrastructure field required.
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Associates Degree - Computer or related field of study preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree - Computer or related field of study preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Travel not likely/required.
