Histology Technician Job Details

• Job Title: Certified Histology Technician – Hospital Laboratory
• Employment Type: Permanent, Part-Time
• Location: On-site in Peoria, IL (61637) – Central Illinois healthcare jobs
• Schedule: Day shift, 8-hour shifts starting at 7am; 20 hours/week
• Weekend/Holiday: Rotating weekends (approx. 1 Saturday/month), holidays as needed (time and a half pay)
• Salary Range: $29.30–$41.36 per hour
• Sign-On Bonus: $2,500 (1 year), $5,000 (2 years), $10,000 (3 years)

Histology Technician Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a science-related field (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program
• ASCP certification as a Histology Technician (required within 1 year of employment)
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Histology Technician
• Willingness to relocate to Peoria, IL for this Illinois healthcare job
• Ability to pass a comprehensive drug screen (OSF is a drug-free campus)

Histology Technician Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by pathologists, including cutting, embedding, and staining
• Process fixed and frozen section specimens according to hospital laboratory protocols
• Maintain and prepare laboratory solutions and reagents for clinical use
• Assist pathologists with gross examinations and autopsy specimens as needed
• Catalog and file slides, maintain laboratory records, and ensure quality assurance
• Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and document activities
• Instruct histology students, lab assistants, or new employees in proper histology techniques
• Demonstrate compassion, timeliness, accuracy, thoroughness, and coordination in all clinical interactions
• Support continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction
• Stay current with trends and techniques in histology through ongoing education and professional development
