Back-end Developer and DevOps Software Engineer III
Location: Springfield, IL; hybrid, this is not a remote position
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Back-end Developer and DevOps Software Engineer III to join our Software Development Practice team. In this role, you will contribute to the continued evolution of our enterprise services, APIs, automations, and DevOps capabilities. Your responsibilities will be split between backend development and driving our DevOps practices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain efficient, scalable, and secure services and DevOps infrastructure. Your expertise will drive the automation and optimization of our software development lifecycle, ensuring our applications are deployed reliably and securely.
About the Department
The Software Development Practice is comprised of 4 integrated teams: DevOps, Development, Test Automation, and Enterprise Application Integrations. Together, we enable secure, high-quality software releases and accelerate solution delivery by providing reusable enterprise services and enhancing developer experience. Our teams work closely with all areas of IT to support enterprise-wide technology initiatives.
DevOps Focus
- CI/CD Pipeline Development: Design and maintain YAML-based CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps to support seamless code integration and deployment.
- Automation & Process Optimization: Automate application deployment, configuration management, and monitoring processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
- DevSecOps: Integrate security practices into the DevOps pipelines to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory policies.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop, manage, and maintain application infrastructure for AWS, Azure, and on-premise solutions.
- Collaboration: Partner with development, security, infrastructure, and operations teams to streamline workflows and enhance developer productivity.
Back-end Development Focus
- Design & Mentorship: Lead code reviews, guide design decisions, and mentor junior engineers to foster modern engineering practices.
- .NET/C# Development: Build and maintain enterprise services and integrations using .NET and other platforms.
- Cloud Development: Configure and develop solutions using Azure and AWS services.
- Security & Authentication:
Implement authentication protocols such as OAuth and SAML; manage certificates and security configurations. - Scripting & Automation:
Develop PowerShell and Bash scripts to support automation. - Troubleshooting & Support:
Diagnose and resolve application issues in development, staging, and production environments. Configure and optimize .NET applications and IIS servers.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in software development with demonstrated DevOps experience.
- 1+ years of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure).
- Service development experience including REST, SOAP, GraphQL, enterprise integrations, and design patterns.
- Strong Azure DevOps proficiency: pipelines, artifact management, and release strategies.
- Expertise in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell).
- Solid understanding of Git version control workflows.
- Ability to lead and mentor IT engineers while remaining technically hands-on.
- Proven ability to learn new skills quickly and a continuous desire to improve.
- Self-motivated with a growth mindset and ability to work effectively in a hybrid/remote setting.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.
- Effective communicator with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred:
- Experience with IIS configuration and .NET deployments.
- Experience with Terraform and Ansible.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Nagios, Prometheus, or ELK Stack.
- Hands-on experience with Azure or AWS cloud platforms.
- Understanding of DevSecOps practices and cloud-native development patterns.
$84,200.00 - $124,100.00
Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
