The Illinois Association for Gifted Children (IAGC) is seeking a part-time Executive Director. The executive director serves as a spokesperson for the organization, provides for the general management of the day-to-day affairs, implements policy, and participates in the development of the organization’s programs.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's or master's degree in the field of education; have current experience in gifted education, administration, managing budgets, event planning, networking, and advocacy. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills and a facility with a wide variety of technology applications. Integral to the position is involvement with state gifted education and advocacy efforts, connections to school districts and university personnel, and statewide networking.

Advocacy:

  1. To lead and support advocacy efforts within Illinois in alignment with IAGC goals and the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC).

Business Affairs:

  1. To oversee the corporation's expenditures and revenue.
  2. To manage the business affairs of the corporation.
  3. To serve on the executive/finance committee.
  4. To manage organizational communications, membership, and billing.
  5. To approve expenditures that deal with general office expenses.
  6. To oversee the filing of taxes and other budgetary responsibilities as assigned.
  7. To create the corporate budget to be submitted to the board of directors.
  8. To supervise personnel employed by the corporation.

Communications and Networking:

  1. To serve as an ad hoc member of all committees to connect and communicate the work of all committees.
  2. To interact with state and national legislatures, ISBE, and other groups concerned with gifted education.
  3. To act as liaison to other state and federal agencies, associations, and education organizations to further the goals of the corporation.
  4. To work with parents and educators to support and promote statewide networking and programming.
  5. To promote the education of gifted children and this organization throughout the state of Illinois.
  6. To support the planning of Board meetings.
  7. To work with an office assistant to maintain a current and accurate website.
  8. To create and send regular communications to members and through networks, including emails, newsletters, etc.

Professional Learning:

  1. To lead planning and implementation of the annual conference.
  2. To serve as the lead organizer for regional conferences, professional learning workshops, and parent events.
  3. To oversee accurate record keeping and maintain required documentation for professional learning activities as required for ISBE Professional Development providers.
  4. To facilitate presentations and events on behalf of the organization

Requirements Summary:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education or related field
  • Experience in teaching, organizational/team leadership, and/or administration
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong technology knowledge and skills (online learning tools, website, databases, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of diverse stakeholders throughout Illinois and create an inclusive, supportive community that promotes equity
  • Experience with gifted education and understanding of critical issues in the field

The salary range for this part-time position is approximately $50,000-$60,000, depending on experience. The executive director reports to the board chair president directly.

This is a .6 FTE hybrid position (both remote/in office). The Executive Director is expected to be in the office, which is in Aurora, Illinois, at least once per week to meet with office staff, attend board committee meetings as needed on evenings and weekends and conduct organizational business. Some travel is required for workshops, conferences, and meetings. Includes PTO/Sick/Vacation time.
