We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist to join our imaging team. The CT Technologist is responsible for operating advanced diagnostic scanning equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patients' internal structures. This role is vital in helping physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions accurately while ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the imaging process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and position patients for CT scans, explaining procedures to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation.
- Operate CT scanners and related equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images according to established protocols.
- Administer contrast media as directed by a radiologist, monitoring patients for any adverse allergic reactions.
- Evaluate completed images for technical quality, ensuring they meet the diagnostic requirements of the interpreting physician.
- Review patient medical history and screen for contraindications, such as pregnancy or impaired renal function.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including documentation of radiation dose and contrast administration.
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on CT equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate department.
- Adhere to strict radiation safety standards (ALARA) to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and self.
- Coordinate with nursing and emergency staff to prioritize urgent or STAT scans in a high-volume environment.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field from an accredited program.
- Current certification and registration in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Post-primary ARRT certification in Computed Tomography (CT) is required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
- Valid state licensure or certification for radiologic technologists, where applicable.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Proficiency in venous access and the manual or power injection of contrast agents.
- Strong technical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot complex imaging software.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hospital or outpatient imaging center. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift or move patients, stand for long periods, and wear lead aprons when necessary. It may involve exposure to ionizing radiation and infectious diseases.
