You will provide expert medical guidance and care to a diverse student body, ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has the health support necessary to thrive academically and personally. This role requires a blend of deep clinical knowledge and the ability to build meaningful, empathetic relationships with students, families, and healthcare providers.

School Nurse – 1.0 FTE


The School Nurse is an integral part of our Related Services Team. The school nurse will work closely with our school social workers, school psychologist, speech pathologist, and special education coordinator to problem solve and create intervention and preventative programs for students and parents. The school nurse will be responsible for obtaining health records for incoming freshmen. The administration welcomes staff who embrace change and challenge and who possess the highest professional and educational standards.



Qualifications:

• State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement as a School Nurse.

Specific Duties:

• Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students and Recommended Procedure for the Prevention of Communicable Diseases designated by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
• Supervises compliance with physical and immunization regulations with the law.
• Plans and conducts vision and hearing screening programs, making necessary referrals for follow-up when indicated under a physician's care. Helps families use available health resources.
• Acts as a liaison between school, student, parent and physician regarding the student's health status when under a physician's care.
• Recommends educational adaptations as necessary for individual needs.
• Provides emergency care for illness and/or injury while the student is under the jurisdiction of the school.
• Provides for the implementation of medically approved emergency care procedures and the reporting of accidents.
• When appropriate, communicate with staff regarding those students having medical/physical limitations and how this limitation should be dealt with in the education process. They are involved in making recommendations for adaptive education programs.
• Gathers and evaluates information for the health and developmental component of the case study and I.E.P. process (I.D.E.A.) Individual with Disabilities Education Act.
• Alerts school administrators and other personnel with health trends and problems.
• Reviews and revises when indicated the objectives, standards, policies, and operating procedures of school nurse services and the total school health program.
• Reviews the standard operating procedure manual every two years, consulting with the medical advisory board.
• Plans annual budget for the school health program, making recommendations for facilities, equipment, and supplies.
• Promotes effective communication between the community, health professions, and the school.
