Position Summary
The Director of AI Programs will support the development and implementation of institutional artificial intelligence initiatives across clinical care, research, education, operations, and innovation. Reporting to the Chief AI Officer, this position will help translate strategic priorities into organized programs, projects, and operational plans that advance the college’s AI-related goals.
The Director will coordinate complex initiatives involving college leadership, clinical partners, campus units, faculty, researchers, technical teams, and administrative stakeholders. This role will provide program leadership, support resource planning, monitor progress and outcomes, and help ensure AI initiatives are implemented effectively, responsibly, and in alignment with institutional priorities. The position will play a key role in advancing AI-enabled initiatives that support the college’s missions in medical education, research, clinical partnership, and innovation.
Duties and Responsibilities
AI Programs and Operations Leadership
- Lead the planning, development, and execution of AI programs and initiatives across clinical care, education, research, governance, and innovation domains. Translate CAIO strategic priorities into institutional programs with defined scope, milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
- Identify operational risks, barriers, and dependencies and develop solutions to ensure successful program delivery.
- Manage multiple concurrent initiatives while maintaining alignment with institutional goals and CAIO strategy.
- Identify stakeholder needs and design operational approaches and program structures that support institutional adoption of AI-enabled capabilities.
Institutional Leadership and Engagement
- Lead cross-institutional alignment and coordination of AI initiatives involving campus units, clinical partners, research groups, and administrative leadership.
- Represent the CAIO Office in institutional meetings and working groups as delegated.
- Facilitate engagement of faculty, clinicians, and administrators to support collaboration and identify opportunities for AI-enabled improvement.
- Communicate program goals, progress, and opportunities related to AI initiatives across stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment of AI initiatives with institutional priorities, governance structures and operational processes.
Financial Management and Resource Planning
- Collaborate with the finance unit on operational planning for AI program budgets and resource allocation.
- Develop financial projections and resource plans for AI initiatives, pilot programs, and innovation activities.
- Coordinate with finance to support the development and administration of internal funding mechanisms, including pilot programs and innovation awards.
- Monitor program expenditures and ensure alignment with institutional financial policies.
- Prepare financial summaries and reports for CAIO leadership and stakeholders.
Program Evaluation and Strategic Reporting
- Develop and implement performance metrics and evaluation frameworks for AI initiatives.
- Track program outcomes, operational progress, financial activity, and institutional impact.
- Prepare reports, briefing materials, and presentations for leadership, and governance groups.
- Synthesize information across clinical, research, and educational domains to inform strategic decision-making.
AI Innovation and Institutional Capability
- Identify emerging AI technologies and assess their relevance to healthcare, research, education, and operations.
- Develop institutional capability for AI-enabled innovation through structured approaches and scalable models.
- Provide strategic guidance on opportunities to improve operational processes through AI automation and analytics.
- Promote responsible, ethical, and compliant use of AI technologies across institutional initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
- Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training, and/or work experience in program leadership, operations management, or institutional initiatives within a complex organization. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working in higher education, academic medicine, healthcare systems, or similarly complex organizational environments.
- Experience collaborating with technical, engineering, informatics, or data-focused teams.
- Working knowledge of AI, digital health, or related technologies sufficient to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience supporting or representing senior leadership in operational or planning settings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to synthesize complex information and support data-informed decision-making.
- Knowledge of program leadership, operational planning, and institutional initiative management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to operate independently, prioritize effectively, and manage ambiguity.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across institutional partners.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5003 - Program Director position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after close date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $80,000–$95,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee.
