Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Contract Duration: 18 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts
• Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2020 - $2070

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program
• Active Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Illinois
• Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification
• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and perform essential physical tasks
• Must pass a drug screen (OSF is a drug-free campus)

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Deliver respiratory care services as directed by licensed healthcare providers to patients in general floors, intermediate care, ICU, and emergency department
• Perform life-saving interventions during emergencies, including Rapid Response and Blue Alerts
• Act as primary airway manager during Blue Alerts
• Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, including advanced ventilator modes (high frequency, inverse I:E ratio)
• Administer aerosolized medications, medical-grade oxygen, and specialty gases (Nitrogen, Heliox, Nitric Oxide)
• Assess patient response to respiratory therapy and recommend treatment adjustments
• Document all interventions and patient outcomes per regulatory standards
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds in ICUs and intermediate care units
