Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections Command Center Supervisor provides critical leadership and oversight of the Command Center, ensuring efficient operations, compliance with policies, and effective coordination with executive staff, law enforcement agencies, and departmental personnel. Serving as a working supervisor, the role manages staff performance, provides training and guidance, and establishes operational goals. The position also oversees LEADS/NCIC warrant processes, maintains communications during critical incidents, and ensures accurate tracking of offender movements and transports statewide. By combining strong leadership, technological expertise, and coordination across multiple agencies, this role serves as a central hub for safety, accountability, and operational excellence. Essential Functions

  • Plans, organizes, and manages the Command Center functions.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Monitors all technological changes and advancements related to Offender 360 (O360).
  • Serves as Agency Law Enforcement Agencies Data Systems (LEADS) Coordinator and as the LEADS liaison with Illinois State Police.
  • Maintains initial point of contact and central command post for all IDOC/Adult and DJJ/Juvenile critical incident situations, ensuring appropriate notifications and activations are made promptly.
  • Oversees tracking and coordination of central communication point for individual in custody transports throughout the State for court writs, medical furloughs, transfers, and extradition purposes.
  • Enters all lost and stolen badges into LEADS/NCIC.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work corrections, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in correctional, law enforcement or criminal justice operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers thorough knowledge of law enforcement terminology and concepts, security and privacy regulations, and 911 law.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of prison administration.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of parole and correctional rules.
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of professional experience supervising staff.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience making entries into Law Enforcement Agencies Data Systems (LEADS).
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of experience establishing and implementing policies.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience developing and providing training to correctional security staff.

Conditions of Employment

  • Required to obtain a Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) certification within the probationary period (or within the first 4 months, if already certified in the title) of being placed into the position and maintain a current, valid certification while in the position.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
