Job Summary

Operator Grade 11 is responsible for safely and efficiently operating process specific equipment that prints and cuts material/product. Operator is responsible for operating the Apstar machine to meet established production requirements and for performing activities associated with safe machine operation, set up and changeover, scheduled preventative maintenance and machine service, quality, documentation, housekeeping, and sanitation.'

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/ DUTIES

  • Read and interpret job orders and set up machine specific feeder, stacker, printer/cutter, conveyor, and scrap conveyor sections of machine
  • Run orders to customer specification by operating printing/cutting machine at established production rate
  • Maintain machine operating efficiency and quality by adjusting speed, tension, and alignment of printing plate as necessary
  • Perform changeover to new run by changing over plates and or cylinders as required and setting up materials for new orders
  • Clean ink fountains, plates, and printing unit cylinders when press runs are completed and when equipment is shut down
  • Maintain ink supply for one or more colors to the press and verify ink conformance to quality by performing tests for and maintaining pH and viscosity
  • Run the stacker and pre-feeder verifying that materials stack and feed properly and the discharge section verifying that materials discharge and stack properly. Use manual pallet jack as required to maintain supply of materials and to clear stacker section.
  • Install and ensure mounting is correct for machine specific rotary dies
  • Replace doctor blade and other machine specific components as necessary
  • Load presses and make necessary adjustments to maintain operating efficiency
  • Maintain quality and perform all required checks prior to production and at assigned inspection points throughout the process for quality of product and ink
  • Use RF scanner to scan transactions to the Warehouse Management System and use Warehouse Management System to generate a label that corresponds to the item
  • Perform sanitation and housekeeping at printing/cutting machine according to requirements
  • Record data on specified forms and complete required line documentation
  • Perform machine service and scheduled preventative maintenance to maintain machine operation

  • Monitor inventory of press supplies and maintain supply levels

  • Make minor repairs to printing plates and cutting dies and maintain organization and inventory of printing plates and cutting dies
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE, HACCP, LOTO, and JSA regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring, where applicable, the product safety, quality, regulatory compliance and legality of all products produced and sold

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum requirements to be considered for this position

  • Education : High School Diploma or equivalent or trade school preferred
  • Experience : Prior Apstar or Ward Flexo Rotary Die Cut machine printing experience or equivalent printing experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment
  • Certifications/ Licenses : N/A
  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :

    OTHER : Knowledge of machine operation and electronic and/or manual machine controls to operate the machine to run production. Knowledge of flexographic printing, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Ability to use RF scanner for WMS transactions. Ability to use manual pallet jack. LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, internal quality procedures, and quality check lists. Ability to communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and others in work area.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Basic mathematics (i.e. counting), measurement using ruler and other measuring devices

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working Environment: Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. In addition, task specific PPE may be required.
