Quality Assurance Technician

Location: Niles, IL

Pay Rate: 20.00

Shift: Monday – Friday – 11pm-730am – 8.5 hours (with meal)

**covers 1st, 2nd, and weekend production needs as required – overtime opportunities available

Purpose Statement

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting food safety and quality compliance through routine monitoring, testing, auditing, and documentation in alignment with the site Food Safety Plan and Rich Products quality standards. This role ensures timely identification, communication, and escalation of deviations while supporting corrective actions under the direction of QA Leadership.

The QA Technician plays a hands-on role on the plant floor and in the laboratory, supporting production operations, maintaining accurate records, and reinforcing a strong quality culture across shifts.

Key Accountabilities and Outcomes

  • Perform routine quality and food safety monitoring activities, including product sampling, line checks, audits, laboratory testing, and equipment calibrations.
  • Document test results accurately and communicate deviations, trends, and concerns to QA Leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Review analytical data and support follow-up actions for product testing deviations to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Support process capability studies and special testing as directed by the QA Manager or QA Team Leader.
  • Coordinate laboratory operations, including raw material, finished product, and audit-related testing and data reporting.
  • Audit laboratory testing methods, analytical protocols, and documentation to ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance Agreements.
  • Review microbiological testing results and sanitation inspection reports, escalating concerns as needed.
  • Place raw materials, packaging, and finished goods on quality hold when directed by QA Leadership and support timely disposition.
  • Assist with root cause investigations for quality defects and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready quality records and documentation.
  • Support training activities and reinforce quality and food safety expectations on the plant floor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory and work environment.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and testing materials.

- Utilize PLM, QDMS, SAP, and Minitab to support quality processes, reporting, and data analysis.

Prepare written reports related to compliance, deviations, and corrective actions as required.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience **

**Required: **

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology , or a related scientific field. Related work experience may be considered in lieu of direct experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of food safety, quality systems, and microbiological contamination in a manufacturing environment.
  • Chemistry-related testing experience or coursework, including concepts such as water activity, viscosity, pH, allergen testing, and free fatty acid analysis .
  • Microbiology knowledge related to pathogens, growth characteristics, temperature requirements, and contamination risks in food manufacturing.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and accurately document results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with SAP, Patrol Suite, or similar database systems preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to constructively handle change, shifting priorities, and time-sensitive work.
  • Willingness to continue training and professional development as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds as required.
  • Ability to operate standard laboratory and powered equipment safely.
  • Ability to use a full range of motion in arms, hands, and legs and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to taste products as part of quality evaluation when required.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods and work in cold, warm, humid, and high-noise environments.

Preferred:

  • One year of experience in commercial food processing or a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with microbiological testing, sanitation verification, and laboratory operations .
  • Familiarity with statistical tools and data analysis software such as Minitab.

  • Monday – Friday

  • 11:00 PM7:30 AM

  • 8.5 hours including meal period

  • Covers 1st, 2nd, and weekend production needs as required. Overtime opportunities available
