As a Polysomnographic Trainee , you will work hands-on with patients to unlock the secrets of a better night's sleep. Under the direct mentorship of a registered sleep technologist (RPSGT/RST), you will master cutting-edge diagnostic technology, perform life-improving interventions, and provide compassionate support to patients on their journey to better health.


Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent)
• Experience: Previous patient-facing clinical experience preferred
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and out-of-center sleep testing, therapeutic interventions, and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care & Education

• Arrival & Consent: Documents patient arrival, interactions, and informed consent for testing.
• Assessment: Reviews patient history, medical records, and supporting documentation to ensure medical necessity.
• Coordination: Acquires additional information from patients or providers to verify the appropriateness of testing parameters.
• Education & Fitting: Performs routine Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and patient education.
• Age-Specific Care: Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for all age populations (pediatric, adult, geriatric) seen in the Sleep Lab.

2. Testing & Clinical Procedures

• Preparation: Prepares patients for testing per policy, selecting appropriate equipment according to physician orders.
• Calibration & Quality: Performs equipment and physiologic calibrations to ensure quality data; monitors signals to ensure recordings are artifact-free.
• Monitoring & Documentation: Documents routine observations during testing, correlating physiologic data and behavioral observations to facilitate scoring.
• Interventions: Assists with appropriate interventions, including patient safety and therapeutic sleep interventions.
• Ancillary Testing: Demonstrates proficiency in performing ancillary testing, including oximetry, actigraphy, and home sleep apnea testing.

3. Data Analysis & Reporting

• Scoring: Develops and demonstrates proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and identifying clinical events according to professional guidelines.
• Lights On Procedures: Follows Lights On procedures to verify data integrity and the completeness of test documentation.

4. Safety & Departmental Support

• Infection Control: Performs equipment cleaning and disinfection, ensuring compliance with infection and quality control policies.
• Maintenance: Assists in requesting and maintaining testing supplies; maintains organization of the work area.
• Communication: Develops effective working relationships; communicates professionally with internal and external customers.
• Quality Improvement: Supports and participates in quality and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $20.02per hour - $32.43per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
