This new role is a combination of hands-on tactical and strategy; aiding in Magid's capacity to build for the future, providing a back-up for core finance duties, and takes on responsibilities currently owned by our CFO. As Controller you will report directly to the CFO and will be a core member of Magid's Leadership team, maximizing the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. The Director will manage and oversee all aspects of the accounting function. This is a critical role for Magid with high visibility that will touch every department across our organization. All subfunctions of Accounting fall under the control of the Director Accounting and Controller.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions.
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Preparing and publishing accurate, timely monthly financial statements.
  • Ensuring quality control over financial statements and financial reporting.
  • Managing and owning all aspects of the General Ledger.
  • Coordinating the activities of external reviewers and auditors.
  • Coordinating the preparation of regulatory reporting. Managing and complying with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. Complying with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation and enforcing adherence to requirements.
  • Developing, evaluating and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Protecting assets by enforcing internal controls.
  • Completing formal balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes to improve timeliness, control and accuracy.
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process. Developing and monitoring business performance metrics.
  • Guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieving financial objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
  • Preparing special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Owning Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition within the company
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
  • Hiring, training and retaining a skilled accounting staff.
  • Maintaining a highly engaged accounting staff by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
  • Protecting operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • Additional duties as necessary

  • Financial support of Manufacturing operations highly desired
  • Financial support of a privately owned business a plus
  • Above average ERP, Excel and BI tool experience required.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and to prioritize in a chaning environment
  • Multi-site and consolidated financial statement preparation experience a plus

Experience/Education Required/Sought:

  • Proven working experience with 10+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
