Civil Engineer - Site Development

Overview

We are seeking a Civil Engineer with strong site and land development experience to join a growing engineering team in the Chicago NW suburbs. This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer (3+ years of experience) who is ready to take ownership of civil design work and contribute to full project delivery—from concept through construction.

You will work on commercial, residential, and municipal site development projects involving grading, drainage, utilities, and permitting coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support civil/site design projects from concept through construction documents
• Prepare and review grading, drainage, stormwater, utility, and site development plans
• Perform engineering calculations and ensure compliance with local, state, and municipal requirements
• Produce permit-ready construction plan sets and respond to agency review comments
• Coordinate with land surveyors, planners, clients, and municipal agencies
• Support permitting, approvals, and construction-phase design updates

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program preferred
• 3+ years of civil engineering experience in site development, land development, or related civil design
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred)
• Experience preparing grading, drainage, and utility plans for site projects
• Familiarity with municipal permitting and civil engineering standards

Preferred Experience

• Background in civil/site consulting, developer-side engineering, or municipal engineering departments
• Experience with Midwest or U.S. municipal review processes (Illinois experience is a plus)
• FE/EIT certification or active pursuit of PE licensure
• Experience with stormwater tools (HydroCAD, StormCAD, HEC-based tools)
• Hands-on coordination with survey teams and CAD-based design workflows

Work Environment & Location

• Onsite role in Wheeling, IL (Chicago NW suburbs)
• Full-time, in-office collaboration (5 days/week)
• Ideal commute: 20–40 minutes from surrounding suburbs
• Common nearby areas: Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines, Park Ridge
