Job Description General Summary: The Assistant Resident Engineer shall be responsible for assisting the Resident Engineer with all functions and activities at all facets of a construction project from commencement to completion. In addition, he/she shall ensure all construction is in compliance with design specifications, completed on schedule, and is built to quality standards within the project budget. The Assistant Resident Engineer shall be capable of assuming the lead for the project and during the absence of the Resident Engineer, shall adapt to the assignment responsibilities of the Resident Engineer. In understanding the critical nature of the work within the Chicago Airport System, compliance to all FAA 139 regulations related to construction and safety shall be enforced by the Assistant Resident Engineer and the project team. Assignment Responsibilities Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:- Review and provide oversight of the Office and Field Engineer's work product
- WorkingcloselywiththeChicagoDepartmentofAviation(CDA) representatives on day to day coordination of contractors' work activities
- Monitoring quality and safety programs for contractor and construction management teams along with the QAQC and Safety Managers
- Prepare a project specific Quality Plan
- Establish and maintain the overall inspection coverage to oversee all work activity
- Developing project correspondence Request for Information (RFI), submittal reviews, schedule reviews
- Field staff coordination and other duties as directed by the Resident Engineer for the project
- Responsible for the approval of field orders, invoices, and payment applications which may include final payment
- Prepare for pre-award and pre-construction meetings
- Review and maintain the project schedule in collaboration with the Contractor and the CARE Plus project team
- Responsible for ensuring all required contract documentation and information is properly processed and understood by the Project Field Inspectors
- Review and monitor staff time allowance and all approved overtime
- Field staff coordination, ensure all required project documentation and information is forwarded to and understood by the project field inspectors
- Ensure all subcontractor information inclusive of insurance requirements, at any tier have been submitted and approved
- Track various pay items and oversee entries into the quantity book
- Preparation of Field Orders when required with the necessary backup documents, review and approval of payment requests
- Actively participate in progress meetings, roundtable and all project management meetings
- 3+ years of experience working on construction projects as either a field engineer or office engineer
- Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management equivalent
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certifications or Professional Engineer Certification

The hourly pay rate for this position is $52.00 to $70.00. Individual pay is based on factors such as relevant experience, job-related skills, education, and training.
