RISE Peer Mentor

Hourly Rate: $15.00

Student employees are hired on an as-needed basis, and the number of positions available fluctuates throughout the academic year.

The peer mentor position is part-time, 10-15 hours per week during standard business hours (Monday-Friday 8am -5pm). Work schedules may be adjusted to accommodate the mentee availability and may occasionally extend beyond the regular business hours. This position serves to support and encourage Rise Scholars through individual and group meetings. A peer mentor will be a knowledgeable guide for students, a thoughtful facilitator who provides access to people and resources, and ultimately a role model and advocate for the student.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development training sessions.

  • Provide regular mentoring support to 10-15 Rise scholars through consistent, structured interactions.

  • Conduct regular weekly check-ins with mentees utilizing approved communication methods including emails, text messaging, In person campus meetings, and video conferencing.

  • Maintaining comprehensive progress notes for each mentee, ensuring accurate, timely, and thorough documentation using required programs and platforms for all mentees interactions.

  • Offer guidance and facilitate access to campus and community resources in key areas including academics, work-life balance, career development, and personal growth.

  • Mental Health Boundaries: While peer mentors may observe signs of mental health concerns, they are limited to providing informational resources only. Peer mentors must not engage in counseling or attempt to address mental health needs directly.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, materials, and discussions within the mentoring relationship. No information may be shared with other peer mentors, mentees, or other students.

  • Communicate and collaborate proactively with program staff regarding any concerns or support for themselves or for their mentees.

  • Other duties as assigned.
