Description of Department: This position will report to the TRIO Director. The newly funded TRIO, Student Support Services (SSS) program will join the Academic Support team including the Academic Advisement Center, the Office of Learning Services (OLS), the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and the Office of Experiential Learning.

The Provost's office at the State University of New York at Oswego and the Research Foundation for SUNY invites applications to fill a full-time Advisor, TRIO - Student Support Services (SSS)

While this position is affiliated with the SUNY Oswego campus, it is a Research Foundation position, not a New York State position.

Compensation: Minimum salary $50,000 commensurate with experience plus a full Research Foundation benefits package.

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Serves as Academic Advisor to TRIO students.

  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of TRIO participants.

  • Reviews and responds to early alert information to ensure student success

  • Research and implement best practices working with TRIO students (first gen, students with disabilities, low-income)

  • Develop, plan, and implement events and programs to promote cultural experiences, career readiness, and graduate school planning

  • Connect participants to resources and partners across campus

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

  • Experience in advisement

  • Familiarity with spreadsheets and database management

  • Professional or personal experiences in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting program participants

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree Preferred in higher education, social work, education, or related fields from an accredited college or university

  • Two years of working in a TRIO federal program or a similar related program for disadvantaged and at-risk college students

  • Experience advising and assisting participants with graduate school admissions and the financial aid process

  • Experience developing and implementing programmatic events such as off-site visits and cultural events
