Job Summary
The role is responsible for managing project design and drafting activities in alignment with industry and company standards to ensure successful project execution. This includes preparing PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, and documentation, coordinating with project managers, vendors, and contractors, and supporting both preliminary and time-sensitive project needs. The position also involves maintaining design standards, providing technical guidance, and ensuring efficient, cost-effective drafting and documentation processes.
Job Description
- Facilitate project design and drafting management in accordance with industry and company standards to ensure the successful completion of all project-related activities.
- Assign electrical equipment and instrument tagging numbers.
- Assign conduit and cable numbers.
- Resolve drawing development issues.
- Draft and update changes to record drawings.
- Prepare process flow diagrams (PFD), piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID), general equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment/instrument lists for plant, pipeline, and related facilities construction projects.
- Assist in developing Project Scopes, Engineering/Design Scopes, and Construction Scopes of Work for third-party contracts.
- Attend project meetings to understand customer needs and provide technical input for efficient designs.
- Assist in reviewing man-hour estimates and work schedules for project efficiency.
- Coordinate the distribution of design packages to ensure stakeholder input and complete information exchange.
- Provide design and drafting services for time-sensitive and budget-critical projects.
- Support preliminary development of potential projects through design and drafting.
- Communicate with vendors for material quotes and availability.
- Perform material take-offs to create parts lists and ensure timely availability.
- Develop material data sheets and generate requisitions for project manager approval.
- Maintain records of technical design documents and correspondence.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of company standard drawings.
- Maintain expertise in design and drafting areas and ensure access to specialized resources and technology.
- Assist in developing and implementing specifications and procedures to reduce costs in drawing/document creation and maintenance.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, purchasing agents, inspectors, engineering contractors, and construction contractors on design, materials, and construction issues.
- Coordinate design and logistical issues with Project Managers and Engineering for effective project progress.
- Provide drafting support for daily system operations while coordinating with CADD Operator.
- Provide guidance to enhance others’ ability to access required information using departmental tools and methods.
Skills Required
- Proficiency in drafting and design (AutoCAD or similar CAD software).
- Strong knowledge of industry standards for electrical, instrumentation, piping, and plant facility design.
- Ability to develop PFDs, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and facility plot plans.
- Familiarity with material take-offs, data sheets, and requisition processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills for resolving drawing and design development issues.
- Effective communication skills for interaction with vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain records, documentation, and design standards.
- Ability to review and analyze man-hour estimates and project schedules.
- Knowledge of specifications, procedures, and cost-efficient drafting/document practices.
- Collaboration and coordination skills for working with project managers and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel to facility sites as needed.
- Travel by air and/or automobile to facility sites as required.
Education/Training/Certifications
- A minimum of a High School degree or GED
