TITLE: Senior Design Engineer (Plastics)

LOCATION: Schaumburg IL

JOB TYPE: Full time / Direct hire

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for leading program-level designs and prototype fabrications for complex enclosure solutions that produce the required performance and features to provide greater value for our customers.
• This position will require primarily job-centered decision-making and close collaboration with others involved in the process.
• The Senior Design Engineer will manage multiple projects.

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• 10 years in Plastics (injection, structural foam moulding ).
• Strong with 3D CAD Systems ; prefers at least 5 years of CREO/Windchill.
• FEA experience (stress, creep, compression, etc.) using CREO Simulate or Ansys .
• Familiarity with industry standards including: Telcordia Specification, TIA, SCTE, FOA , etc. and the testing required.
• Understanding of Product Life Cycle Management, RCA , and 3D printing required.
• Understanding of Tooling and its design for review with 3rd party tool designers.
• FRP Composite design and manufacturing desired.
• Fiber Optics experience desired ( patch panel, splice trays, handling, and routing ).
• Fiber optic measurement ( power meter, OTRD, Fiber microscope ) desired.
• SPE member desired.
• Knowledge of MS Project and Visio desired.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead projects from concept through to launch.
• Provide technical support in plastic part design and processing .
• Draw and design package preparation and release.
• Develop requirements and analyses product design data to determine conformance to established design selection criteria, standardized parts and equipment use, and design-to-cost practices.
• Maintain and upgrade existing products.
• Establish test plans and execute 3rd party certifications.
• Lead the development and testing of prototypes for new product ideas and create product specifications.
• Create and maintain project development plans and create and execute Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
• Lead cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and redesign existing products.
• Generate and release full bills of material for manufacturing.
• Identify non-conformances and root causes to initiate and implement solutions.
