Overview

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean and Provost of the School of Medicine and Chief Executive Officer of SIU Medicine (Dean/Provost/CEO). This dual executive role leads a nationally recognized academic medical center committed to medical education, innovative research, and high-quality patient care.

Established in 1970, SIU SOM is a publicly-assisted medical school and integrated clinical enterprise focused on education, patient care, research, and community service. With roots in Springfield's Mid-Illinois Medical District, SIU Medicine—the clinical practice of SIU SOM—provides comprehensive, team-based care through multidisciplinary clinics and regional partnerships, supporting hundreds of thousands of patient visits annually while training future physicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals. The School is known for its Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum and early clinical exposure.

Responsibilities

• Develop a strategic vision that elevates the School\'s role in medical education and clinical care;
• Invest in and strengthen medical programs to ensure student success;
• Strengthen strategic partnerships with clinical partners and affiliates to expand SIU\'s impact;
• Ensure long-term sustainability through financial stewardship, clinical growth, and resource optimization;
• Drive operational improvements to enhance patient access and quality of care;
• Build on SIU\'s R1 designation by aligning the SOM\'s research mission and priorities;
• Recruit, retain, and develop talented faculty and staff.

Compensation

The target salary range for this position is $650,000-$1,000,000, which represents a combination of compensation packages for both the Dean/Provost role and CEO role. Final offers will be negotiated based on qualifications and experience.
