Technical Accounting Resources Manager

Want to support GFOA members and the public finance profession by developing and delivering training and other resources that strengthen accounting and financial reporting practices across local governments?
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is recruiting a Technical Accounting Resources Manager to create and deliver high-quality training , publications , and other resources focused on accounting, auditing, and financial reporting . This position collaborates with internal and external subject matter experts to create educational resources and ensure that GFOA's educational offerings are accurate, timely, and aligned with best practices and professional standards.
The Technical Accounting Resources Manager/Trainer will work in a hybrid environment, can be primarily remote or onsite, but in-person in GFOA's Chicago office or other locations as needed for training, speaking, annual conferences and other staff meetings.

Job duties will include but are not limited to:
Education Development and Delivery
- Design, schedule, and deliver engaging education in various formats (webinars, virtual series, asynchronous, and in-person).
- Present and facilitate courses independently or with co-instructors, both virtually and at national training events.
- Develop and maintain educational content including PowerPoint decks and participant resources, ensuring content is uploaded to GFOA's Learning Management System (LMS).
- Recruit, coach, and collaborate with volunteer instructors to support effective course delivery.
- Assist in the creation of practical resources (e.g., templates, tools, model financial statements) that help members apply complex accounting and reporting requirements.
Annual Conference Planning
- Collaborate with the Director of Resource Development to plan sessions related to accounting and financial reporting for GFOA's Annual Conference.
- Develop session outlines, learning objectives, and speaker coordination.
- Identify and recruit speakers from government, standard-setting bodies, and other relevant fields.
Publications and Other Resources
- Create or support the Assistant Director of Publications in development of publications, case studies, articles, and tools that reflect current guidance and practical applications.
- Contribute to updates of GFOA's core publications, including Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting (GAAFR) .
- Write articles for Government Finance Review and support development of session content for other conferences.
Internal Subject Matter Expert
- Serve as a technical resource for internal teams, including the Certificate of Achievement (COA) for Excellence in Financial Reporting program professional staff.
- Assist with training and onboarding related to accounting and reporting for GFOA staff.
The Technical Accounting Resources Manager/Trainer will possess the following attributes and competencies:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced accounting professional with expertise in governmental accounting standards and a passion for education. This role requires strong collaboration, communication, and project management skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (CPA preferred).
- Deep knowledge of GAAP for governments, GASB pronouncements, and GFOA best practices.
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards and Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards.
- Experience teaching or presenting technical content to adult learners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
- Ability to travel for training events and conferences as needed.
Starting Salary Range $115,000-$130,000
