Orthopedic RN Job Details

• Location: Urbana, IL 61801 (Illinois healthcare job)
• Facility Setting: Inpatient Orthopedic Unit
• Employment Type: Locum Tenens / Travel Nursing Contract
• Start Date: September 29, 2025
• End Date: December 27, 2025
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Hours per Week: 36 (3x12 hour shifts)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2,090 – $2,140

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license in good standing (required for Illinois nursing jobs)
• Minimum one (1) year of recent orthopedic or medical/surgical nursing experience
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association

Orthopedic RN Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of orthopedic and med/surg patients during each shift
• Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transitions
• Coordinate care with physicians, surgeons, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
• Delegate and monitor clinical interventions performed by healthcare staff
• Set up and manage orthopedic traction and surgical traction devices
• Manage wound appliances, including wound vacs, drains, pouches, and urological devices
• Maintain accurate nursing documentation and update care plans based on ongoing patient evaluation
• Promote patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing safety hazards
• Engage in professional development and support peer growth within the healthcare team
• Fulfill departmental competencies and complete annual nursing education requirements
