Setup & Operation | Mills & Lathes | Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist who excels at setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In this role, you’ll be responsible for producing high-precision components while maintaining strict quality standards and tight tolerances.

This position is ideal for a skilled machinist who enjoys problem-solving, ownership of their machines, and working in a collaborative shop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 1–2 CNC machines , advancing to 2–3 machines once fully trained
• Read and interpret blueprints and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and quantities
• Edit CNC programs and perform changeovers for new jobs (tolerances up to ±.001)
• Inspect first-piece and in-process parts using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
• Complete all setup documentation for blueprints, fixtures, gauges, and tooling
• Install and secure tooling per setup sheets and process instructions
• Adjust speeds, feeds, depths of cut, and tool offsets as needed
• Properly position and secure workpieces in jaws or fixtures
• Index machines and adjust tooling to ensure clearance and accuracy
• Perform routine quality checks to ensure conformance to specifications
• Record daily production and keep setup materials organized
• Perform autonomous maintenance, including fluid level checks and minor adjustments
• Support and mentor machine operators as needed
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of CNC setup and operation experience (mills and lathes)
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
• Knowledge of manufacturing quality standards
• Experience using hand and power tools
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications

• CNC certification (or willingness to train the right candidate with certification)
• Willingness to cross-train and support other areas of the facility

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Loves Park, IL.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
