The Opportunity
- This senior level lab position will be expected to work both independently and in conjunction with their Manager/Director and other Food Technologists on the development and commercialization of ready-to-drink products as well as Ready to mix powders. These projects can span multiple regions, including North & South America, Oceania, Asia, and Middle East. This role requires a proactive approach, underpinned by a solutions-oriented mindset. Successful applicants must have an extensive track record of developing and executing new concepts through to market/launch, and the candidate must demonstrate knowledge and a proven formulation history in ready to drink beverage development. This is a lab position where all food allergens (milk, soy, nuts, peanuts, wheat, egg, etc…) are present. This person will be involved in tasting a variety product types and subsequently exposed to them. This permanent position will report to the RTD Applications Manager.
- Formulate and develop ready to drink beverages and ready to mix powder beverages. Includes: formulation, ingredient evaluation & validation, preliminary costing and preparing nutritional and supplement facts panels.
- Organize sensory panels. Refine formulations until desired characteristics are achieved.
- Innovate and create prototypes by experimenting with diverse formulations and flavor profiles. Transform initial concepts into products that excel in taste, functionality, and quality
- Manage/execute pilot plant and scale-up manufacturing trials and initiate analytical testing for raw materials and prototypes.
- Drive reformulation efforts to comply with evolving government regulations, customer demands, or cost constraints.
- Role may include 10-20% travel, based on projects and necessity.
- Documents all ingredient specifications, formulations, variables tested, product stability, and other pertinent details and enters into lab notebooks and Formula Management System.
- Produces formula cost information; works with purchasing, finance, and sales teams to help establish final product pricing; initiates new item documents and set-up for all product introductions.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to execute projects and product maintenance.
- Demonstrate adaptability in brainstorming and troubleshooting sessions, contributing to a culture of solution-focused problem solving.
- Works with Regulatory to generate and align on compliant Supplement/Nutrition facts panels and ingredient listings.
- Provides Leadership in a team environment.
- Identifies & overcomes barriers to successful innovation by developing strong interdepartmental relationships with customer, manufacturing, supply chain, finance, quality, packaging, and purchasing teams.
- Understands customer needs, business needs, and business strategy, consumer trends, and category landscape of competitive products.
- Works with key suppliers and purchasing team to stay on top of upcoming trends, novel ingredients, and new application ideas.
The Skills you will bring to the team
- Bachelors degree in Food Science, or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience working in the food, beverage, or dietary supplement industry; prior development of beverage formulations across high acid hot fill and low acid aseptic manufacturing platforms.
- Advanced knowledge in ready to drink beverage formulation along with manufacturing equipment for beverage production.
- Knowledge and application of flavor systems is essential.
- Knowledge of international regulations and consumer needs is a plus
- Extensive raw material and product stability knowledge is essential.
- Proven track record of developing new concepts and bringing products to market.
- Skills of the position
- Detail-oriented, well organized, and follow GMP lab and factory guidelines
- Guides discussions in relation to projects, driving actions and alignment. Able to translate technical information to a variety of audiences and tailor communication as needed.
- Efficiently manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and successful outcomes.
- Problem-solve while looking through both a technical and business lens, always ready to think outside the box and inspire your team with innovative solutions.
- Thriving in fast-paced, hands-on environments, navigating change and ambiguity while leading with enthusiasm.
- Potentially manage and develop 1 to 2 direct reports and their projects
- SAP experience preferred.
- Competencies for the position

- Able to present to more Senior Management without undue tension/nervousness.

- Able to effectively train junior employees on technical skills and help set goals for, provide feedback to, and develop direct report(s)

Compensation
Compensation for roles at Glanbia varies depending on a wide range of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set and level of experience. Glanbia provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in IL. This range may not be applicable to other locations. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The annual salary for IL based employees for this role is $95-130K with an annual bonus.
