Responsibilities

The Director of Maternal Child Health Services is a Registered Nurse responsible for the 24-hour leadership, management, and operational oversight of the Maternal Child Health Department. The Director ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while promoting clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, staff development, and operational efficiency.

This role provides leadership in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all departmental functions and patient care services. The Director collaborates closely with physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital administration to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and an outstanding patient experience.

The Director reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and assumes house supervisory responsibilities as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Operations
  • Provide 24-hour administrative and clinical oversight of Maternal Child Health Services.
  • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate patient care delivery to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, strategic plans, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, accreditation, and hospital regulations.
  • Maintain accountability for departmental operations, staffing, productivity, and resource utilization.
  • Participate in hospital leadership initiatives and interdisciplinary committees.
  • Patient Care & Quality
  • Oversee the provision of patient care for adolescent, adult, and older adult populations.
  • Ensure evidence-based practices and standards of care are consistently maintained.
  • Monitor quality indicators and patient outcomes and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Lead departmental performance improvement activities and support organization-wide quality initiatives.
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to ensure patient needs are met effectively and efficiently.
  • Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, supervise, and evaluate departmental personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, engagement, and professional growth.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective utilization of nursing personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate staff education and competency development.

Financial Management

  • Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets.
  • Ensure cost-effective utilization of resources while maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Support operational and financial objectives through effective planning and resource management.
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between staff, physicians, hospital leadership, and ancillary departments.
  • Communicate effectively through written and verbal channels regarding patient care, operational issues, and departmental performance.
  • Interpret and implement hospital policies and procedures to ensure consistent practice standards.
  • House Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assume house supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency codes and urgent situations throughout the hospital.
  • Complete assessments, documentation, and follow-up actions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current and unrestricted Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of perinatal nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
  • Preferred
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • National certification in Maternal Child Health, Women's Services, or Nursing Leadership.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Maternal Child Health regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Strong financial and operational management capabilities.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • National certification in Maternal Child Health, Women's Services, or Nursing Leadership.

Olympia Fields Hospital offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that provides employees the flexibility to tailor benefits according to their individual needs. Our Total Rewards package includes, but is not limited to, paid time off, a 401K retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, and many more voluntary benefit options. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $100,339.20 to $135,054.40 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
