Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services seeks to hire a Residential Supervisor to provide operational oversight, supervision, and coordination of duties of residential care workers and assists in supervision of other staff on an assigned shift at Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education – Roosevelt (ICRE-R). This position serves as a working supervisor to Residential Care Workers on assigned shift and unit and as a backup supervisor to other Residential Care Workers in the absence of the regularly assigned supervisor; provides guidance, training, and evaluation to staff in the physical care of students including feeding, toileting, safe transferring, dressing, and daily living skills; develops, maintains, assigns, and reviews records through preparation and maintenance of daily and masterwork schedules; participates in orientation, training, and staff development by maintaining a comprehensive orientation program for new employees, an ongoing annual in-service training program for staff and helps with program planning; plans, implements, and assists in coordination of student free time activities by promoting a pleasant and constructive atmosphere in residential areas; and maintains, reviews, and follows up on student’s material needs, service supplies and equipment need by maintaining adequate working supply of necessary materials.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Residential Supervisor.
  • Serves as a working supervisor to Residential Care Workers on assigned shift and unit and as a backup supervisor to other Residential Care Workers in the absence of the regularly assigned supervisor.
  • Provides guidance, training, and evaluation to staff in the physical care of students including feeding, toileting, safe transferring, dressing , and daily living skills.
  • Develops, maintains, assigns, and reviews records through preparation and maintenance of daily and masterwork schedules.
  • Participates in orientation, training, and staff development by maintaining a comprehensive orientation program for new employees, an ongoing annual in-service training program for staff and helps with program planning.

  • Maintains, reviews, and follows up on student’s material needs, service supplies and equipment need by maintaining adequate working supply of necessary materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree with course work in the health and human services fields plus two (2) years direct care experience in a mental health/rehabilitation residential care setting OR Requires two (2) years resident care supervisory experience in a mental health/rehabilitation residential care setting.

*Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the state requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience guiding, training and supervising staff.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience working with individuals with physical disabilities and addressing the behaviors and problems.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience assessing operational needs and delegating assignments to staff appropriately in a public or private organization.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience communicating effectively orally and in writing.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing quality assurance activities.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience compiling and summarizing data and preparing records and reports in a clear and concise format.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
