Process Technician (Libertyville)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Molding Process Technician with strong expertise in injection molding processes and RJG-based process control methodologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing injection molding machines to ensure high-quality production output in a regulated manufacturing environment.
This role requires hands-on experience with hydraulic and electric injection molding machines, along with a strong understanding of process optimization, quality assurance, and lean manufacturing principles.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up molds, injection molding machines, and auxiliary equipment for production runs
- Configure and adjust machine parameters to achieve optimal part quality and cycle efficiency
- Perform machine start-up and shutdown in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve molding defects such as flash, short shots, sink marks, and warping
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on molds and molding machines
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams for advanced troubleshooting and repairs
Quality Assurance
- Inspect molded components to ensure compliance with quality and dimensional standards
- Maintain accurate documentation for process parameters, lot traceability, and corrective actions
- Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Process Optimization
- Monitor mold and machine performance to identify opportunities for improvement
- Reduce cycle time, scrap rate, and downtime through process optimization techniques
- Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all plant safety protocols and operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards including ISO 13485, FDA CFR, and GMP requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in injection molding or mold setup
- Hands-on experience with hydraulic and/or electric injection molding machines
- Strong understanding of molding process parameters and defect troubleshooting
- High School Diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
- RJG Master Molder I or II certification (strongly preferred / mandatory preference)
- Experience working in RJG process-controlled environments
- Associate degree in Plastics Technology, Manufacturing, or related field
- Forklift certification
