Brief Description

JOB SUMMARY

The operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating process specific machines and equipment that convert materials into WIP or finished product. Operator is responsible for running machines to meet established production requirements and for performing activities associated with safe machine operation, set up and changeover, scheduled preventative maintenance and machine service, quality, documentation, housekeeping, and sanitation.

Essential Job Functions/ Duties

  • Run converting machines at established rates, follow the production schedule, continuously monitor machine performance, and document any variables that may cause machine downtime
  • Complete the process and machine specific make-readies to prepare for machine set up, install machine components, set up the machine according to product specific requirements, and perform process specific changeovers
  • Monitor machine operation observing indicators such as lights and gauges to detect machine malfunctions and use those indicators to troubleshoot to maintain machine operation
  • Perform adjustments and service on machine/equipment as required by specific process
  • Perform preventative and machine specific repair/ machine service tasks
  • Perform machine specific cleaning and service to the machine such as maintaining the machine glue system and other process specific auxiliary equipment
  • Use RF scanner to scan transactions to the Warehouse Management System and use Warehouse Management System to generate a label that corresponds to the item
  • Maintain process specific production supplies and materials such as glue, tape, bags and other production supplies and materials in the work area using a manual and/or electric pallet jack
  • Perform process specific quality checks and make machine adjustments to resolve quality issues
  • Record data on specified forms and complete required line documentation
  • Communicate production and machine issues to the supervisor and other production personnel
  • Perform housekeeping and machine sanitation requirements
  • Assist other operators as required and relieve other line personnel for breaks and lunch
  • Assist in training other process operators and process support personnel such as helpers, feeders, and packers
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE, HACCP, LOTO, and JSA regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring, where applicable, the product safety, quality, regulatory compliance and legality of all products produced and sold


Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, or trade school preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years of equivalent experience or experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment with 1+ years of machine operator experience
  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:


OTHER: Ability to operate manual pallet jack and/or electric pallet jack. Ability to use RF scanner for WMS transactions. Knowledge of the use hand tools and the ability to use hand tools. Knowledge of machine operation and electronic and/or manual machine controls to operate the machine and run production. Knowledge of machine systems that may include mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, internal quality procedures, and machine operating procedures. Ability to communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and others in work area. Ability to work in an operating environment that may include a machine configuration that requires interface with packers and feeders.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic mathematics (i.e. counting), basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and basic measurement using measuring device such as a ruler.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working Environment: Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. In addition, task specific PPE may be required.

The employee may occasionally move and position up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
