Sr. Software Engineer- Low Latency
Location:Chicago, IL – Candidates must be local and willing to work hybrid model, 2 days onsite per week.

This is a 6 month contract position with potential for extension. - Focus on architecture and solution efficiencies; balance performance, capacity, and reliability with core system functionality.
- Identify opportunities for code optimization; provide input for code reviews and assist with environment build deployments, release notes, and build notices; proactively review code to identify and mitigate potential issues, defects, and their sources.
- Write optimized application modules and unit tests with minimal guidance; understand low-level designs and how to incorporate them into the larger application.
- Use design tools to frequently share and communicate design ideas on larger systems; leverage low-level tools such as packet capture and hardware counters to examine the system.
- Apply knowledge of modern multi-processor architecture to tune applications and systems for high throughput and low latency.
- Use design patterns frequently, contributing to best practices and process enhancements.
- Ability to evaluate the characteristics of algorithms and data structures for a given constraint.
- Proficiency in multi-threading, concurrent data structures, shared memory, asynchronization, JNI, NIO, HashMap, and related concepts.
- Understanding of queue theory and various designs and implementations to enhance system performance.
- Experience working with networking protocols (UDP, TCP).
- Familiarity with redundancy and fault tolerance techniques.
- Familiarity with JVM internals and garbage collection tuning.
- Advanced knowledge of Linux kernel/OS internals.
- Experience with EF_VI, JNI, and Onload SolarFlare extension APIs.
- Demonstrated understanding of thread pinning, interrupts, isolating cores, jitter, NUMA nodes, and TLB caches.
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience in financial services, trading platforms, or risk management technology.
