Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A school district in Joliet, IL is currently seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support elementary students throughout the full school year. This contract position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities to accommodate varying schedules, focusing exclusively on an elementary caseload.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate effective communication between elementary students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers, peers, and staff using American Sign Language (ASL).
• Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and school events to ensure equal access to the curriculum.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to promote an inclusive learning environment.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interpreting assignments.
• Support language development and social integration of students as part of an educational team.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language at an interpreting level.
• Experience working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
• Understanding of educational terminology and classroom dynamics.
• Ability to manage a caseload full of diverse student needs.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
