We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to lead and oversee financial operations for an organization in Chicago, Illinois. This contract-to-permanent position requires a strong leader with expertise in accounting processes, financial reporting, and team development. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in real estate/property accounting, as well as proficiency with tools such as Yardi, Bill Pay and P2P systems.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting.
• Lead the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
• Supervise accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions, including journal entries and general ledger management.
• Provide strategic direction and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering growth and development.
• Ensure efficient implementation and use of systems like Yardi and P2P for streamlined financial operations.
• Oversee bill pay processes and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to establish and maintain accounting best practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting operations and implement effective solutions.
• Support external audits by preparing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
• Maintain compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, audit preparation, and month-end close processes.• Strong knowledge of property or real estate accounting principles.
• Proficiency with accounting systems such as Yardi and P2P platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor accounting teams.
• Expertise in managing AP, AR, journal entries, and general ledger activities.
• Exceptional leadership skills, with a focus on strategic and technical guidance.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus.
