Scratch Baker / Kitchen Assistant (Seasonal)
Banter – Farmers Market Bakery
Banter is a from-scratch bakery producing creative sweet and savory baked goods for farmers markets and local events. As we enter our fourth season, we’re looking for a dependable and motivated baker or kitchen assistant to join our small team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on production, early mornings or overnight shifts, and working in a focused, team-oriented kitchen environment.
Season: April–mid November
Compensation
Day Shift: $18+/hour (DOE)
Overnight Production: $22+/hour (DOE)
Compensation is based on position, experience, availability (part-time vs. full-time), and ability to work independently.
Schedule
Weekday Shifts:
6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Weekend Shifts:
10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
Weekend availability is strongly preferred. Consistent scheduling available.
Position Summary
The Scratch Baker / Kitchen Assistant supports daily production of baked goods from scratch, contributing to all stages of preparation, baking, and packaging. This role requires strong attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
Responsibilities
Prepare and bake breads, pastries, and other items following established recipes
Scale, mix, shape, and finish products with consistency and care
Execute daily production lists in a timely and organized manner
Package and organize products for farmers markets and events
Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and workstations
Assist with inventory, prep, and general kitchen support as needed
Qualifications
Previous baking or kitchen experience preferred (professional or educational)
Strong work ethic and ability to stay focused in a production environment
Attention to detail and commitment to product quality
Punctual, reliable, and team-oriented
Ability to take direction and maintain consistency across batches
Preferred (Not Required)
Experience with bread, pastry, or laminated doughs
Familiarity with small-batch or high-volume production environments
Interest in developing baking and production skills further
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand for extended periods
Comfortable working early mornings, evenings, or overnight shifts
Certifications
Food Protection Manager Certification (or willingness to obtain)

Additional Details
This is a seasonal position running April through mid November. There is a goal of promoting from within at the end of the season to an Assistant Head Baker role, if that position has not already been filled.
