Job Description
In this role, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing most accounting activities, including P&L and balance sheet reviews, monthly close, and internal controls for Therma-Tru. It is an exciting business with tremendous growth potential. This position plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of the business’s financial statements. The Accounting Manager will be an enabler to implementing large process improvement projects, such as new ERP system implementation. The accounting manager will lead a staff accountant and the external business process provider.
Position location – This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based in Deerfield, IL or Butler, IN. (On-site Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.)
RESPONSIBLIITIES:
What you will be doing
- Manage the monthly close process including, ensuring adherence to month-end close timelines, review and prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, and own P&L and balance sheet reviews.
- Partner with the internal controls department to ensure effective and adequate system of controls are in place at Therma-Tru manufacturing facility in Butler, IN.
- Act as a key liaison for all audits conducted by internal and external auditors and drive the execution of audit recommendations.
- Work with sites to implement required controls, monitor ongoing compliance, maintain documentation, and educate local team on SOX 404 requirements.
- Partner with local finance and operations teams to interpret financial results and KPI’s, including review and reporting out significant flux variances.
- Ensure that financial statements and disclosures are accurate, complete, and prepared in accordance with GAAP, coordinating with corporate accounting and external reporting teams, as needed.
- Ensure that all transactions, assets, and liabilities are properly stated through review of account reconciliations and understanding of business transaction flows.
- Work side-by-side with the ERP implementation team, ensuring that the test scripts are appropriate, the system meets accounting requirements, and all documentation meets internal control standards.
- Stay current on accounting statements and pronouncements and provide interpretation on their applicability to the company.
- Lead a team of two accounting professionals in handling the above responsibilities.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
- 8+ years of experience preferably in a manufacturing environment or large publicly traded corporation
- Previous Management experience
- Strong analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software, specifically Excel
- Ability to work in multiple, large ERP systems (SAP or Oracle experience a plus)
- Proven experience in driving process improvement
- Ability to lead, motivate and support a team of direct reports
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA Certification or CPA eligible
- Previous experience in public accounting

Additional Information:
Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $90,000 USD - $143,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
