Job Summary

This position provides accounting support, identifies issues and provides guidance to University Departments to ensure that the accounting system reflects data supportive of current accounting procedures and requirements.

$4,085 - $5,312/month

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree with a major in accountancy (or equivalent course work).
2. A total of four (4) years (48 months) of progressively responsible experience in professional level accounting work consistent with the next lower level of this series.

An advanced degree in accountancy or registration as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Preferred Qualifications

1. An intermediate level of computer experience and knowledge of spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word are beneficial.
2. Good understanding of financial and fund accounting and ability to utilize that knowledge in a computerized environment.
3. Ability to interpolate information, such as receiving information from an outside source, running reports, interpreting data, and combining data into an invoice and various other report formats.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
5. Ability to prioritize assignments and work with multiple tasks is also required.
6. Ability to learn rules, regulations, and procedures of the University, Board of Trustees and State of Illinois.

Work Hours

Core work hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
