General Manager - Electrical Contracting - Base Salary to 185k/year - Galesburg, IL

• Our client is an established commercial and industrial electrical contractor seeking an experienced General Manager to lead daily operations, drive profitable growth, and build a scalable organization. This position is responsible for overseeing business operations, estimating strategy, project acquisition, financial performance, and operational execution while partnering with ownership to support long-term expansion. The role offers a defined path to Chief Operating Officer as the company continues to grow.

Responsibilities:

• Lead estimating strategy, pricing standards, and bid review processes for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.
• Develop and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified commercial, industrial, government, and institutional construction opportunities.
• Evaluate project opportunities based on profitability, labor capacity, scheduling requirements, and overall business risk.
• Develop and execute growth strategies that increase revenue while maintaining healthy margins.
• Provide leadership for daily operations across estimating, project management, field operations, and business administration.
• Hold managers and project teams accountable for operational performance, financial results, and company standards.
• Serve as the primary decision-maker for operational issues and project escalations.
• Ensure projects are properly staffed, scheduled, and completed on time and within budget.
• Monitor project performance through Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, labor productivity, scheduling, and financial metrics.
• Identify and resolve operational, project, and financial issues before they impact profitability or customer satisfaction.
• Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and overall business planning.
• Drive continuous improvement through operational processes, systems, and accountability.

Qualifications:

• Proven success leading and growing an electrical contracting company or similar commercial construction business.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing commercial and/or industrial electrical construction operations.
• Strong background in estimating, bidding, pricing strategy, and project acquisition.
• Experience developing project pipelines and driving sustainable revenue growth while maintaining profitability.
• Experience managing project operations, field teams, project managers, and financial performance.
• Working knowledge of WIP reporting, job costing, labor productivity, project scheduling, and operational financial metrics.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to build accountability and align teams toward business objectives.
• Experience operating independently with responsibility for overall business performance.
• Experience working within a union environment or willingness to lead a union-signatory organization.
• Ability to partner closely with ownership while maintaining day-to-day operational leadership.

Compensation:

• Base salary in the 165k - 185k/year range
