Job Summary

Bennison’s Bakery is looking for a passionate and skilled Cake Decorator to join our award-winning production team. As a staple of the Evanston community since 1938, we pride ourselves on high-quality ingredients and exceptional craftsmanship. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a mastery of various decorating techniques, and the ability to turn a customer’s vision into a delicious reality.

Key Responsibilities

• Custom Design: Execute high-level decorating for weddings, birthdays, and special events using, buttercream, fondant, royal icing and basic airbrush knowledge
• Production: Ice, frost, and decorate a high volume of our classic store cakes as well as customer ordered cakes 
• Collaboration: Work closely with the other bakers and the front-of-house team to process custom orders and ensure design accuracy.
• Quality Control: Ensure every cake meets Bennison’s standards for aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
• Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workstation in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: 2+ years of professional cake decorating experience (portfolio required).
• Technical Mastery: Proficiency in piping (borders, lettering, flowers), smoothing buttercream, and working with rolled fondant.
• Artistic Ability: Strong color-matching skills and an understanding of composition/design.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods.
• Efficiency: Strong time management and attention to detail.
• Communication: Ability to communicate when supplies are running low and to ask for help during busy holiday season.
• Communication: Strong verbal communication skills for collaborating with the front-of-house team to ensure custom order specifications are executed with 100% accuracy. Also letting management know when you are running low on specific items.
