Essential Functions
- Performs field inspections of cannabis business establishments including but not limited to, cultivation centers, infusers, transporters, craft growers, and hemp producers and processors.
- As part of the inspection process gathers data from the states traceability system to be used during inspection of business.
- Completes inspection process.
- Advises cultivation centers, infusers, transporters, craft growers, and hemp producers and processors - of state regulations and when applicable federal regulations.
- Regularly interacts and corresponds by telephone, or in person to obtain facts, answer questions, explain processes and compliance requirements, and verifies information.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college.
- Requires satisfactory completion of 30 total semester hours of undergraduate and/or graduate coursework in agricultural science, biological science, chemistry, criminal justice, accounting, business, or a closely related field.
- Requires completion of the cannabis regulator training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers extensive knowledge of - state laws and regulations concerning the agricultural production, processing and transportation of cannabis, hemp and related derivatives and federal regulations when applicable.
- Prefers working knowledge of industry practices and methods related to the production and processing of cannabis and hemp.
- Prefers working knowledge of the procedures for inspections and collecting and testing samples.
- Prefers working knowledge of effective methods of investigation and what constitutes legal evidence.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires completion of a name-based background screening and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- Requires the ability to successfully pass a preemployment physical.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
