Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Peoria, Illinois (61637) – Central Illinois healthcare jobs
• Unit: Cardiac Stepdown Care Unit (21 beds)
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (September 8, 2025 – December 8, 2025)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed hours
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2130–$2190
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 3:1
• Dress Code: Non-pediatric scrubs
• Orientation: 1 day EPIC training, hands-on skills review, 1 full shift with RN preceptor

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license
• BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (preferred)
• Minimum 1 year of ICU nursing experience (preferred for cardiac stepdown jobs)
• EPIC charting experience
• Ability to work every third weekend
• Willingness to float to cardiac stepdown, adult general medicine, or ICU units
• Must pass a drug screen (OSF is a drug-free campus)

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Perform vital signs, full patient assessments, and intake/output monitoring every 4 hours or as needed
• Manage foley catheters, reposition patients every 2 hours, and monitor fall risk patients
• Administer and titrate IV drips (one titratable drip at a time)
• Collaborate with Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for purposeful rounding and patient care
• Utilize EPIC, Pyxis, vein finder, IV pumps, cardiac monitors, lift equipment, bladder scanner, vents, and bipaps
• Provide bedside reports and update care boards in patient rooms
• Care for patients with subdural drains, lumbar drains, chest tubes, arterial lines, and central lines
• Float to other units as needed, maintaining safe RN-to-patient ratios
